50 Ways to make more money!

March 1st, 2008 at 09:39 am

Half the budgeting battle is cash flow, income, paycheck, otherwise know as bringing home the bacon. It's not so much what you owe, or even how much you spend as much as how much you make. It's one thing to cut back on all unnecessary spending, but it's an entirely different goal to bring in more money.

My Dad always said that cash might be king but that cash flow was God. It took me years to really get this, but it's true.

If you are new to budgeting and you want to do it well you need to do two things. Spend less and bring in more money. Either done separately will surely help, but doing both together will catapult you towards your financial goals a whole lot quicker!

A good budget allows you to have the financial security of no bad debt (your mortgage, student loans, 0% credit cards with the money sitting in a high interest earning savings account are all not bad debt) and a large emergency fund. I've put together a list of 50 ways to make more money to help you reach your financial goals. When deciding what you want to do to make more money first start with what you like to do. Next ask yourself if you are good at it. Then research research your idea to see if there is a need for it and if you can make money offering it. A good place to start your research is at http://www.craigslist.org/. Not only is craigslist free, but you can search other geographic areas to see what is missing from your area that others are offering (and making money) in others of the country.

Quick Note- Are there any stay at home Moms out there? I get tons of emails from stay at home moms... telling me that they have no idea what they could possibly do to make extra money because they have been out of the marketplace for so long being a mom. Every time I see one of these emails I'm amazed! Stay at home moms have one of the toughest jobs out there. Moms learn so many very valuable lessons just by becoming moms. Some great ideas for moms that need their self esteem boosted are babysitting, clean houses, organize kids parties, tutoring, cooking, etc. The possibilities are endless and many of these things can be done while your child is with you!

So here's the list. Please feel free to share your ideas too. I'd love to get this list over 100 to give others even more ideas! You can also find more detailed instructions for some of these ideas byclicking here!

Why would those things boost self esteem? You mean because they could earn money when doing them for someone other than their own families? Self esteem certainly need not rely on earning. Please do not equate self esteem with earnings. Please don't assume that SAHMs need a boost of self esteem. In the rest of your writing you are talking about boosting income, so I guess that is what you really meant in the quoted sentence.

I love ebates! I have earned over $50.00 from them so far and am going to try to do all my online shopping through them!

Joan... you miss understood me. I was shocked that some stay at home moms would have such low self esteem that they would think that they had nothing to offer in the sense of brining in income. I've received lots of emails over the past year where the moms said as much and I was really saddened by this as I think it's the toughest job out there (which I said in the sentences before the one you quoted). I have never and would never assume that SAHM's need a self esteem boost, aside from the ones that have emailed me. I just wanted to encourage everyone that EVERYONE can bring in more money. Everyone has something to offer even if they don't think they do,(as noted in the emails I've received). The lack of faith in yourself to bring in income is what I call low self esteem. I do not equate self esteem with earning... I equate ones lack of faith in themself to do whatever they want to do as low self esteem.

I just re-read my whole paragraph on SAHM's... I think I said it well, but highlighting that one sentence would make it appear otherwise... I'm sure this clears this up.

Club, yeah ebates is great. I hate shopping at a store that doesn't offer some sort of rebate... LOL!

A good list for those who live in a city of town of any size. But, for my rural area, with the surronding towns of a population of 11, 2800, and 254, not too many of them would work. We don't even have DSL here, no Walmart, no movie studios, and the few businesses that do exist are mainly all owned by the same family and they support all their family. Even the dogs here walk themselves, as this is farm country with no lease laws. Most families here farm with at least 1 stay at home parent, so no need for childcare or cleaning. The public school here received a low income rural grant of some sort from a performing arts organization and even gives free music and piano lessons, so people don't want to pay for that either.

But, I can sure see this generating some income if you lived in a city.

When I took two years off to care for parents, it cut deeply into the family budget...earning extra wasnt much of an option...so I went the other way. I re-aquainted myself with coupons. I learned to make my gas last by grouping errands. I shopped canned food warehouse type stores, I set a $ goal for all meals--dinner for the family was never over $5 and often much less. I had more time to shop sales and drastically reduced birthday and christmas spending by bargain shopping or home making gifts. In my case, making our money stretch was my job...and it was very rewarding. It was fun to see my family eat more healthy and for so much cheaper. Good list for those who can/want to earn a little extra tho!
